Jul 17, 2017

In 2016, I embarked on a creative journey inspired by Breaking Bad, a show that masterfully explored human complexity and morality. As an artist and fan, I wanted to bring the iconic characters to life in my own style—through monotone, flat, and line-art illustrations paired with their most famous catchphrases.

This project wasn’t just about paying homage; it was a valuable learning experience. It pushed my skills in design, storytelling, and the art of minimalism, leaving me with a deep sense of growth and accomplishment.

Designing with Simplicity
The monotone and flat line-art style perfectly captures the raw essence of these characters. It strips away distractions to focus on their defining traits and memorable moments, staying true to Breaking Bad’s minimalist yet deeply layered storytelling.

Reflecting on the Journey
Looking back at this project now, I’m reminded of how much I grew as a designer during 2016. From refining techniques in Adobe Illustrator to immersing myself in each character’s story, this series taught me the value of simplicity, contrast, and the power of a single line.

The Characters and Their Words

Walter White
“I am not in danger, I am the danger.”

This line marked Walter’s chilling descent into Heisenberg. My design reflects his transformation, with stark shadows and sharp lines that highlight his duality.

Jesse Pinkman
“Science, bitch!”
Jesse’s raw energy and unfiltered personality shine in this piece. Using bold contrasts, I captured his excitement, rebellion, and heart.
